Treatment of neck pain depends on the cause and the severity of the condition. Your doctor may recommend any of the below treatments and therapies to help manage or relieve your neck pain.
Non-Surgical Treatment Options
Neck pain can significantly impact your daily life, but not all cases require surgical intervention. Below are some of the less-invasive options that your doctor may recommend to alleviate your neck pain.
Physical Therapy
Heat, ice or similar treatments combined with muscle stretching and strengthening exercises enhance the structures that support your neck.
Injection-Based Treatments
If there is evidence of nerve root irritation causing pain, your doctor may perform an epidural injection to administer steroids into the space around the nerve roots to reduce inflammation
Alternative Treatments
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) can also make a difference to your neck pain. Electrodes placed on your skin near the painful area in the neck deliver tiny electrical impulses that may relieve pain. Talk to our spine specialist about alternative treatments that could benefit you.
Surgical Treatment
Although most cases of neck problems can be addressed with non-surgical treatments, you may be in the minority of patients who may benefit from surgical treatment. Decisions about surgery should be made after careful consideration of the potential benefits of the surgery versus the risks.
Motion-preserving procedures such as cervical disc replacements, cervical laminoplasty and spine decompression surgery are performed in our centre, to allow continued motion in our patients. Our state-of-the-art technology such as operative microscopes, intraoperative neuromonitoring, and intraoperative imaging/navigation systems such as the O-arm, has also led to an improvement in patient safety.
